View Full Version : Taskbar changes to 'Classic' a few minutes after reboot

I have an issue where my taskbar returns to it's classic (pre-XP) view
rather than the standard XP blue after a few minutes when booting up.
Also, my audio fails to work and the Volume Control mixer will not show
up when double clicking the sound button on the taskbar.

What is the history of these problems. Are they all recent? If so have you
tried a system restore to before the problems appeared?

i had to do a system restore recently, which is why i'm reluctant to do
so again. this started happening a little bit after the windows update
error covered in this thread:

We haven't had any posts in here about that particular update causing the
types of problems you describe. I'm not sure why you are reluctant to try a
system restore but that's up to you.

i have been having the exact same problem as mistergoomba on only one (the
newest) of my 3 similarly configured laptops... sometimes the taskbar hangs
at Windows loading- the bar is there but not all the parts load (Quick launch
bar, system tray, etc.) and the system seems to just freeze and i reboot to
get it going again... eventually on rebooting it all loads properly, but then
a few minutes later the parts of the taskbar start changing to "classic" from
"xp"... it begins with the start button, and then the open windows buttons...
so i have 2 different styles on the taskbar at once... all i have noticed in
"classic" style is the taskbar, the rest of the system seems to stay in xp...
i can change it back to xp in the properties setting for the display, but it
doesn't stay that way... next time i have access to that computer i will try
a system restore, but the taskbar not loading fully has been an issue from
the get-go... i only noticed the "classic" style creeping in this past week!
if anyone has any further help info on this please let me know!
