I've seen this here many times, but can't remember...
How do I stop the Windows Picture & Fax Viewer from opening instead of my
preferred graphics program? I have my prog set in the file associations, but
the P&FV keeps opening anyway.
Thanks all.

Solution #1:
Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations\ image\ ShellEx\
ContextMenuHandlers.
Delete the ShellImagePreview key.
Close the Registry Editor when you're done; the change will take effect
immediately.

Solution #2:
Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ CLSID\
{e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}\ shellex.
Delete the MayChangeDefaultMenu key.
Close the Registry Editor when you're done; the change will take effect
immediately.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.

Hi, LMO.

A recently-added feature gives us one more way to control such things:

In Add or Remove Programs, click the new icon Set Program Access and
Defaults.

This may or may not work better than other ways of doing the same thing. If
there are conflicts between this setting and others - such as in Folder
Options, or in CD/DVD Autoplay settings - I'm not sure which one overrides
the others. The Registry settings are the final authority, of course, so I
suppose Taurarian's solution is the definitive one.
