I'm not sure what you mean.
Do you mean that you created backups using Windows 98 Backup utility? These
files are .QIC files. If so you can use the trialware version of Backup MyPC
to open and extract the files. www.stompinc.com
If you mean that you used an early version of Direct CD to create the CDs
you will need to "finalize" this disks in order to read them in XP. Or you
can upgrade Easy CD Creator and Direct CD to either version 5 with the most
current update patches, or upgrade to Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 with Drag n
Drop, in which case you won't need to finalize these disks. There is also a
possibility that an app like ISOBuster will enable you to read the disks and
recover the data off them http://www.smart-projects.net/

If this forces you to purchase a newer copy of Easy CD Creator, you might
look for weekly sales in Staples, OfficeMax, Office Depot, CompUSA, Best
Buy, etc. as they frequently run sales for new CD-RW drives with "free"
software for $10-40 after rebates. The stand-alone SW cost typically $50-80,
so getting the new drive is a good deal. Be aware that most SW that comes
this way is "locked" so that it only works with the brand and/or model drive
that it is shipped with.
