Power Management in XP Professional SP2

Hello,

I've configured the laptop to do nothing when the lid is closed in XP Pro
SP2. This does work when user belongs to local admin group but does not when
user is taken out of local admin group. The setting is still there but the
laptop will suspend if the lid is closed instead of staying powered on.

Is there a work around for this issue? We use wireless broadband VPN and
want the laptop to stay connected even if the lid is closed so users don't
have to restart the VPN each time the lid is closed for a few minutes.

This setting is individual for each user.

So change it when you are logged in this user account.

Probably you'll be need to give [temporarily] the administrative rights
for this account -- or to change the system policy so this user will be
able to change power settings.

Thanks. We granted the user local admin right to make the change and it works
if we don't remove the admin right.

However, when we remove admin right for the same user, the power setting
stay as defined but it does not work.

How do we make the custom power setting work without granting user admin
rights?

Something isn't right, when you temporarily make a user member of the
Administrator group and make changes to the Power Options they should
stick and work after you remove the administrator rights.

To allow users to change the power options without administrator rights
give them specific security permissions on the following key and its
contained/child objects:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Controls
Folder\PowerCfg

If you want all users to have rights add "Interactive" to the permitted
users.
