What you mean by can't delete, does it AutoComplete or how do you know that
the History not been deleted?.
Download this tool:
http://www.ccleaner.com
Also you can turn the Autocomplete OFF if it is the case.
You may be have the Temp Folder corrupt, so deleting it and create another
one will cure the issue.

Bill,

This will do it:

http://www.crouchie.net/downloads/ie_visited_sites.zip

or manually:

Click START
Click RUN
Type 'regedit' without quotes & press OK
Naviage to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

In the right pane delete 'url1' onwards but don't delete 'DEFAULT'

Close the registry editor

I hope this helps,

Bill,

Sorry for the delay

If you navigate to the said registry key & click on TypedURLs the right-hand
pane will contain visited websites

Example:

Default value not set
url1 http://www.microsoft.com
url2 http://www.symantec.com
....

Just highlight url1, url2, press the delete key (or right-click to delete) &
it will ask if you want to delete the selected value(s)...

Before you delete them when the TypedURLs key is highlighted use the
Registry menu to Export the key in case you delete the wrong value

If you delete url1, url3, url5 then url2 & url4 will not show up in IE &
will have to be renamed url1 & url2 respectively for them to show. That's
why the tool was a better way to administering them without going in the
registry & is safer too

Let me know your progress, please

Hi Bill,
Please try this and let us know:
Open Windows Explorer and locate these paths and delete the content * Not
the Folder/Main Folder just the Subs*;
C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\User Data = Delete all Folders in the Right
Pane/Windpow.

C:\Windows\Temp\History\History.IE5 = Delete the History folder or the
History contained in the Folder.
C:\Windows\Temp\Internet Temporary Files\ History = again delete the History
Folder or the contained History in it.
Run Disk Clean Up and Defrag in safe Mode, does this help.
If not as I mentioned you may have a corrupt Temp folder so try to Create
another folder by going on the IE properties under General and click Settings
Button.
On Settings click on Move Folder Button and specify location other than the
one the Temp in , when done Close and Reboot your computer and Reverse the
Moving of the Temp to it's location, does this help?.
HTH.
Good luck.

Nass,

Because there are Index.dat files in some of the folders you mentioned then
you won't be able to delete them

Plus, the IE5 History folder is hidden too

All this will be unlocked in Safe Mode, try to log into Safe Mode and try the
deletion.
I can see them in my Windows explorer although I have selected don't show
hidden Files/Folders on my system!.

Try to move the folder and move it back as I suggested and see, log as Admin?.
Do you have Admin privileges assigned to you on this machine?.

Hi Newbie,
I think Bill may have a profile corruption or may be limited account as I
can open these folders on my machine and happily delete these subs without
going to show hidden files/folder or to Safe Mode?.
I told him to try in safe mode or else he need to create another account
with Admin privileges if the machine clean and there is nothing lurking and
blocking this procedure to happen.

HTH.
