View Full Version : Missing Security Tab on One Folder Only

I'm running WINXPMCE2005 w/SP2, harddrive is NTFS. Disk Defrag reported some
highly framented movie files in C:\documents and
settings\hp_administrator\local settings\temporary internet
files\content.ie5\. I no longer want the files and prefer to delete them but
Windows Explorer cannot find the directory "...\content.ie5\" or any of the
movie files. The only thing displayed under "...\temporary internet files\"
is a few cookies and htm files but absolutely no subfolders. Checking
properties on "...\temporary internet files\" shows over 1.9 gigabit in use
between 12 subdirectories and 100s of files. I turned off simple file
sharing and tried to take ownership of "...\temporary internet files\"
directory but there's no security tab. All the other folders have security
tabs -- even the directory directly above it. I searched the knowledge base
and there is reference to this problem but no explanation of how to fix it.

I prefer to clean up all this wasted space rather than just let Defrag
resolve the framentation problem and sweep in under the rug -- out of sight
out of mind. Any help would be appreciated.

There are a number of ways to clean up that folder.

1. Log off from your account and log on with the built-in
Administrator account. Run a search for your Content.IE5
folder. Within that folder, you should find a number of
subfolders with names composed of random numbers and letters.
You can safely delete these folders.

2. While logged on with your account, open the folder
C:\documents and settings\hp_administrator\local
settings\temporary internet files.

Click in the Address bar at the top of the window so the folder
name is highlighted.
Hit the right arrow key on your keyboard.
This should result in the blinking cursor appearing at the end
of the folder name.
Type \content.IE5 and hit enter.
Once again, you can delete any subfolders.

3. Download, install and run CCleaner. Under Cleaner Settings,
uncheck everything but Temporary Internet Files. Hit the
Analyze button to check out what's being deleted before running
the cleaner.
