download free fonts. my wife designs greetings cards as a hobby and some more

AFAIK fonts aren't executable, so provided you don't run an exe, bat, com
file etc, you downloaded as a font I can't see a problem. Most font file
I've seen are just stored in zip/rar archives.

It should be noted that having too many font's on your system can slow it
down. At least this was true under earlier versions of Windows. Maybe
someone could confirm/deny that under XP.

I can't recommend a good site though, but I've never had a problem with
downloaded fonts - except you will find the same ones often on different
sites.

What is "too many"? I have 982 ... so far.

That said, my system doesn't even show a hint of being slowed by all
the fonts. I'd say what you've "heard" is meaningless BS.

I'm using in my site some GPL fonts, for Mathematics and Freetype for
design. You can download (or know more about), at:

http://freetype.sourceforge.net/download.html

I had 700 running Win98. No problem

It's meaningless BS if one has a properly setup system with enough
memory and hard drive space.
