View Full Version : Problems booting up XP

My trusty Dell computer doesn't boot up reliably. It sometimes just locks
with no error message and sometimes with an error stating that the computer
is trying ro write to the ROM. I can't use System Restore- XPjust tells me
that System Restore has failed.

I've also tried disabling the very few devices I've installed without
success.

Any other suggestions?

I could reinstall Windows XP but I'm afraid that this will delete all the
programs installed on the computer.

Nigel.

Does the error appear at the first boot screen (text screen)? Is the system
giving you any beeps (more than one) when the system performs the POST
(Power On Self Test)?

Please post the exact error message.

Mark

The exact error message is:

Error Message:
STOP: 0x0000000B (parameter, parameter, parameter, parameter)
NO_EXCEPTION_HANDLING_SUPPORT

But sometimes it just freezes eg. when the Windows window appears.

try to do a repair on your system by loading your xp disc at boot screen and
doing the repair option this way you will not lose any of your files and
settings

That's not a common error message. This is what MS has on it:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/1127.asp

For more discussion look through the results of these Google web and group
searches:

Good luck.

Hello,

My name is Richard; I am part of Dell's Online Community Outreach group here in Round Rock, Texas. Before processing a repair or reinstall, test the system hardware. This is not to suggest that hardware is at issue, but it is so quick and easy that there is no reason not to test the hardware. The diagnostics is located on the Drivers and Utilities cd that came with the computer at purchase. The diagnostic software can also be downloaded from our website at this link, http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&clearsystem=true&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs.

Richard, can you quote at least a part of the post to which you reply?
Otherwise there is no context. This is a threaded, Usenet newsgroup. Many
use a newsreader and only download the recent messages so the previous
messages in a thread might not be visible. Thanks.
