Hey guys,

We're having a large number of users exhibiting issues with the svchost
process spiking our CPU's at 100% and hanging the machine, which is
indicative of the break that Hotfix 927891 is supposed to address.

We'll apply the hotfix to resolve the issue, and it does for a while...but
then after about 3 or four months it will come back. Reinstalling it is a
pain too.

Has anyone noticed the same thing in their environment?

Also, has anyone created a package with this hotfix to deploy widescale?
And if so, how good were the results?

Thanks as always!

Best Regards,

PA Bear

See

and the related http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387285.aspx.

Both the new 0374 AU client/WSUS 3.0 client and the 927891 hotfix will be
"pushed" via the Update Servers by late-May/mid-June, William.

I built a Windows XP Pro machine for a friend and it was working fine
until she got her hands on it. :-) Seems that after installing Office
2003 she tried to do the update thing... needless to say the update
got nowhere and after a few minutes of 100% cpu utilization, a
temperature monitoring program I installed started to give her
warnings which produced a call to me. I found that svchost is hogging
the cpu and getting nowhere.

I had a similar problem with a client running Vista Home Premium the
solution there was to start up in safe mode, rename the windows
SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old and reboot. It
seems that folder was corrupted.

Now I want to know what corrupted the folder on both system and the
only thing I can think of is Onecare. The Vista owner bought a
subsciption while the XP Pro user has a trial installed. Any comments
on that?
