Everytime I click on Windows Explorer to surf the Net, a window installer
window pops up a message "wait while Windows Installer configures..." for
about 30 seconds and then I get to surf the web.

Secondly, I can't seem to load or reinstall any programs progarms because
windows installer gives me this message:

"this patch package could not be opened. verify that it exists and that you
can access it..."

Hello Rock,

Thanks for the response. I looked for that reference in my registry and it
wasn't there:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Prod ucts\DFAD2CEE8555CA04E8C905508C8F018E."

I also downloaded and ran:

"Msicuu2"

To no avail... and still got nowhere. any other ideas?

THanks

Hi JMensah,

Any idea what is it trying to install/repair?

Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
Select the "Application" log
Look for the recent entries with the source column containing "MsiInstaller"
Double-click the entry for more details.
It may show the product name for which the installation/repair took place

In some cases, the application name may not be available, but the ProductCode will be available. You can then map the ProductCode with the actual product name using the steps listed in this article:

Hello Ramesh,

I tried your suggestion and this is what was on the logs:

Detection of product '{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}', feature
'HandWritingFiles' failed during request for component
'{E6BFD503-3A35-4B78-BAB5-9570EDDEF81C}'

and the other was this:

Unexpected or missing value (name: 'PackageName', value: '') in key
'HKLM\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\90401109 00063D11C8EF10054038389C\SourceList'

I am thinking I shouls delete this value and see what happens? What do you
think? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Hi JM,

Product code {90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} is for Microsoft Office. Perhaps a repair of Office would help.

If that does not work:

1. Uninstall Office
2. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove MSI info for Office
2. Reinstall Office
