Movies from digital camera to wmm

I'm sure this has been asked before, but what file format do I need to convert my mov. files into to be compatible with windows movie maker. I tried the rad tools on papajohn's web, but when I press convert file, it shuts down.
What program can I buy to convert files, and where in the UK can I buy it??
