May be the wrong place to ask but does anyone know of any effect which a
functioning Mobile Phone signal has on a PC. Say the phone was on top of,
or
beside a PC when a message arrived. Any known problems ? I do realise that
mobiles are used with laptops all the time but I want to be as sure as I can
be that this is OK. To keep this on message, would a mobile signal affect XP
Home !
Thanks for your time.

Engineers will relate your issue to "Electromagnetic compatibility".
If your mobile phone is logged in and displays the logo of your radio service provider
the mobile phone will receive and send short messages from/to the base station
in regular intervals in order to keep in contact. Any base station message
arriving at the mobile phone is too weak to do any harm to the PC. The response
message of the mobile phone to the base station in principle can do harm if it
is situated next to the PC.
I have put my mobile phone next to my PC and laptop very often for extended
periods of time and did never notice any adverse effects to neither PC nor laptop.
Several of my workmates got the same results even in fringe reception areas.
In the European Union all computers must pass a type approval before they
may be sold. The type approval procedure includes tests on electromagnetic
compatibility. Having passed all requirements, the computer will show a "EC" badge.
Although I have been a professional development engineer for mobile phones with
a major mobile phone producing company I have never heard of practical PC
malfunctions due to nearby mobile phones if the PCs had an "EC" badge attached to
them.

Your wording is ambiguous in scientific terms. For all practical situations within
the circumstances that I did outline, you can be sure that there will be no
malfunctioning of your PC.
To keep this on message, would a mobile signal affect XP
The probability of PC malfunctioning does not depend on your operating system.
