slow deletion

I have 2 identical PCs both running Xp pro. One takes at least 5 times as
long to delete a file or clear the recycle bin.
Any ideas on what may be wrong

Sounds like you may have a fragmented disk. Try defragging the harddrive.
Also, boot the machine with the issue into safe mode and see if you can
delete things quicker there, you may have an underlying application that is
causing this as well.
