I was given a web cam but they didn't have the set up disk for it. how can i
get it to work? is there a site where i can download the software for free?
or an auto search program on my comp.? I am running win xp. thamks.

Look at the web cam, note the manufacturers name and try going to their
website to see if the software is available.

The drivers are obtainable from the manufacter's web site. eg Logitech web
cams - drivers from www.logitech.com

Win XP will first try to install the drivers that it may already have (or
may ask for the Windows setup CD). Usually it will try to install the
hardware it detects first and generally will have drivers for most devices
except the odd obsure ones. You then can get the updated driver version
from the appropriate web site.

What brand of camera is it?
