Hi,

I'm helping a friend with his PC (XP Home) and we installed an older
printer, a DJ882C.

The HP site says there are no new drivers for this printer and that they
are on the Windows CD. So we installed the printer using the WinXP
drivers and the printer seems to be working fine. It prints well.

Looking in Device Manager we find a yellow question mark and it says
parallel device unknown. That is the printer, I'm sure.

How can we get Dev Mgr to recognize and identify the printer in there as
it should be?

Thanks, Fred

PS - I've got a request in at HP but no reply yet

since the computer only sees and manages the port, the printers don't
need to be in device manager... they are visible and managable in
start/settings/printers after they are installed.

Thanks Beverly,

Ok, understand that the printer doesn't need to show but why the yellow
question mark saying parallel device unknown?

Fred

my guess it that you need to set it up in the bios as ecc or epp or
bi-directional
