Chris you can't format your C: drive from the command
prompt, XP is using the C drive to provide the command
prompt.
If you want to reformat your drive and reinstall XP then
first make sure your bios is set to boot from cd then
insert the XP cd into your cd-rom and reboot your
machine. XP will begin to install. At the welcome to
setup screen you will be asked what drive/partition you
want to install xp to. Select the C drive/partition. The
enxt screen will ask if you want to leave the file system
as it is (this is the default). Here you select format in
fat32 or format in ntfs. Don't use the quick format
method, use the standard format. After the drive has been
formatted xp will carry on installing.
Hope this helps
