If I re-name a video file, will the quality lessen? I thought I heard from
somewhere that when you re-name a file, it re-saves.
Or is it just re-naming it and it won't touch the actual file at all?

If you rename yourself... you're still the same person. It's the same with
video files. But sometimes it helps get an app to try opening and using it.
For example a VOB file on a DVD has a name that's familiar to DVD players
but won't work on most computer software.... renaming it to MPG will get the
computer software to try..... and if the software can handle MPEG-2 files,
you might think it was the renaming that did it.
