Hello,
Those are the symptoms:
When I try to create a DVD once the burn is completed I get an error that It
could not writt the lead out-the DVD is no more accessible.
When I try to open explore the DVD writter and there are no DVD nor CD it
tells me Drive D not accessible ... I/O error
If i want to copy a file directly to the DVD the drive does not appear
(right click-send to)
If I copy then paste on D...not accessible.
I have Nero as burning software. My DVD writter is DL and is Sony 840A.

I have burned a dvd VOb file and as the last step was taking too long I
canceled it...I could access this DVD but there was only the files and could
not be played on DVD player.

With nero tools the DVD blank are compatible with the burner..I have tried
different DVD blank type and nothing change. I have unistal and reinstall
nero nothing change. What to do? I can't copy my personnal home maid video.

In advance thank you..
Cheers!

Have you tried reducing the burn speed?

Thank you "Not to me";

I did not try this as i didn't think about it. I have set the speed to
auto/optimal. Will try tonight.
But still why my drive cannot be accessible and why do I get this i/o error.
Anyway thank you for this clue...will check it out!

Cheers

Hello,

It could be the laser failing, especially if it is old.

DVD drives use two lasers, one to read CD discs and one to read DVD discs.
You can try burning a CD-R and see if that works.

I know that if you run special software, like InCD or DirectCD (which
utilize packet writing), you can right click>send to files to a CD-RW just
like it is a floppy drive.
I don't think I have seen that for a DVD.
To burn files to a DVD, you need to start the creation process from within
Nero.
Start Nero, tell it you want to burn either a data or multimedia DVD. It
should ask you what file(s) to include.
In most cases, you can't just drag & drop files to the DVD writer without
doing it from inside the Nero software.
If the burn process fails, the disk is ruined and the drive will tell you
there is no disk in it.
I would be tempted to run a cleaner disk in the CD/DVD deck to clean the
lint/dust off the laser.

Well this is the end...

I am sad to annouce you that my PC became unstable and that a clean install
is needed...before yesterday I thought that the pb could come from the fact
of a bad config between my HDD Sata and myn ide dvd...so I change some
setings in the bios and that is it...a PC that is starting
eratically...shutting down...this morning I took out the battery from the
motherboard to reset the default settings and window started but shut down a
few seconds after...all ny icons in start pannel are blank...and still pb
with my dvd...sony by the way!!!!!I am mad...last week it was the router and
found out that all of this was because of my firewall in Kaperski and now myn
dvd!!!!!I am mad of mad...
Anyway fianlly succeeded to start the nero application and start the
testing....well it just stop after a few minutes and shut down everything
...tried twice twice the same...for now it indicates me a speed of 4....

So my dear helper you know what that mean...insert the window xp pro
disc...boot from the cd/dvd and here we go for a 12 hrs set up....I do not
havr a lot in the HDD hopefully but my home made movies are now belonging to
the past and we'll have to do all over again..hrs and hrs of fine tuning on
Vegas...Also I might buy today another dvd writter I had a lg before and
there was no problem....at all...
Guys, I will contact you again and if you have an answere for the I/O error
please tell me....

Got to insert now the cd in my PC....snif!!!
