To restart a crashed computer, which on boot up called for a startup CD
(which I do not have) I used my Windows installation disk and was landed
with a new set of Windows, which I find are not working properly in some
areas and prevent me from connecting to Broadband.
To cure it I want to uninstall this (second) set of Windows. How do I do it
without damaging the first set of Windows, which must be on the hard disk,
so that I could try some other way of restarting them?

I take it you mean first set and second set as different copies of the
Windows Platform CD? If your computer crashed and you have fresh re-installed
then you will probably have to locate the drivers for that NIC card. If you
tell me the name and model of your Network interface card I will help you
locate the drivers for it. But as the second cd, I don't think its going to
make a difference if you fresh install from that one either.
