Go to Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors that correspond to when the blue screen appears, if your not sure,
wait until the next one or do whatever she is normally doing when it
appears; unfortunately, you didn't mention that to us. Then double click
the error, the informatio contained within may give some clues as to the
source of the issue.

Don't know if XP was preinstalled on your mother's computer or if it was an
upgrade but place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup screen appears,
select "Check system compatibility," it's outcome may also give some clues.
Even if XP came preinstalled, she may have some incompatible software
installed and this report might show it.

Make sure her drivers are up to date, especially for the grphics card and
soundcard but also anything else connected to the computer.
