drow

I have a sidewinder gamepad and the sidewinder precicion pro joystick, both
with gameport. I tried to install them on my windows XP but they don´t work.
I did something I read about clicking "add" in Game Controllers but when I
do that it appears an error.
I don´t know if I need new drivers or controllers, I hope someone could help
me with this
thank you

Have you contacted Sidewinder support about this?

Are they both supported in WinXP SP2?

Sidewinder only "sorta works" on Xp. It's OLD hardware designed for the
DOS based Windows era. That era is over.

they were designed for windows 95 and 98, not for DOS. I don´t understand how
Microsoft can do a new version of windows and the products of the same
company don´t work on it...I think they had to do some drivers or something...
How can I buy a product of Microsoft knowing that if they change Windows my
product doesn´t going to work...

You have to install the game port's driver before installing the game
port controller's driver.

Note that many USB adapters aren't compatible with "digital" game port
controllers, including force feedback game port controllers, because the
"digital" controllers utilize the game port's MIDI functions. Many late
model computers require the installation of a PCI sound card and it's
drivers for "digital" game port controller use. Many of the USB adapters
only work for the game port's dual analog joystick circuitry. Adapters
that came with the controller are often the exceptions.

Like Microsoft does with operating systems, they discontinue support
after a few years. There is the cost of repeatedly training employees
(as staff turnover makes the one that are familiar with the products
unavailable) how to remotely support products that haven't generated ANY
revenue for several years.

Since few computers come with game ports any more, most late model game
controllers are designed for USB ports.

DOS based, as opposed to NT based. Which is what XP is.

The drivers are included in XP... go to the Control Panel, click on Game
Controllers and use the AutoDetect feature.

The profiling facility that used to exist where you could map buttons to
keys for a particular game is no longer supported in XP. It is now done by
the game you are using it with.

I have a precision pro joystick as well, but I use the game port to usb
converter that came with the device. So far, I have not had any real issues
with it. I suggest you try using the adaptor as well. Not sure about the
gamepad though as I do not have one.

Hope this helps.
