View Full Version : deleting programs from quick launch

I have managed to gather a lot of programs which are
automatically launched on startup. I would like to remove
them so that I can start them up from my desktop as I
need them & not have them automatically open up as they
do now. I know this can be done but I don't know how. Any
help would be appreciated.

Download and install Tweak UI
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp), then go to
the startup section and uncheck any program you dont want to run at startup.

TweakUI has no Startup section. You are probably thinking of
Msconfig (which doesn't have to be downloaded, since it comes
with Windows).

In that case, download and install JV16 PowerTools @ www.jv16.org, or System
Mechanic @ www.iolo.com, then you stop programs from loading at startup ;)

Why do you need a 3rd party tool? Start->run->msconfig. Been around for a
while and is free.

Although they (and other choices) may work fine, most people have
no need of such programs. MSconfig, as I said, comes with
Windows, and works fine.

Hi Sheila,

Sounds as though you are meaning the Notification Area:

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
