Does WinXP have a basic built-in web server so that I can
test server side includes on my local machine? If so,
how do I activate it? If not, is there a simple
alternative?

Hi Stuart
You can use the optional IIS Web Server component on Professional Edition
with Server Side Includes. You can install this through add/remove windows
components in add/remove programs.
Home Edition does not include a web server so if your using that you would
need to look to 3rd party servers.

XP Pro has IIS. It can be installed using Control Panel> Add/Remove
Programs> Add/Remove Windows Components.
If using XP Home, no. You'll need a third party solution, such as
Apache, if using this version of XP.
