I recently downloaded the updates to Windows XP. I can
no longer control my screen saver and the "monitor off"
function does not work. The screen saver does work
initially, but if I walk away for a while and come back,
the windows screen is back. I've tried several times to
reset the properties section, but it does not help.

Try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this issue
began. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

Have you checked the power-save settings for your monitor?

Goto: Start>Settings>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Power
Options

The first screen that pops up will show what the current settings are....
just double check that it's not going into a pwer save mode.
