Picture download problem

Alright this is a strange problem. I try to save a
picture to my harddrive with the save picture
as...option. A file is created but no picture is really
there and the file sizes vary with the different
pictures. But I am able to set is as my background. Donno
why and I have tried this with several different sites.
This is a new problem. Help. Thanks Adrian

What file type is the file and what does it do when you try to open it?
