I have tried to download and install the subject tool several times.
Each time win update indicates installation was successful.
Yet, KB 890830 keeps showing up as uninstalled on the win update
critical page.
Suggestions welcomed. tia. Have a nice day.

The MRT is located in WINDOWS\system32 and is named MRT.EXE
See if it's present on your system, Shelly
Go to Start > Run > copy and paste the below into the Open: line

mrt
Click OK or press Enter
Wait a little while and the tool *should* open
Click the Next button
Put a mark next to 'Full Scan',click Next, and do a full scan
If it's not present and an error message appears, try downloading and
SAVING it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AD724AE0-E72D-4F54-9AB3-75B8EB148356&displaylang=en

When the download completes close the browser and any other open
programs. Then temporarily disable the installed antivirus program from
*any* real-time monitoring of the system. Consult the Help file or the
manufacturer's web site to learn how do accomplish this.

Next, run Windows-KB890830-V1.32.exe
That *should* get the MRT installed and initiate a Quick scan of the system

*REMEMBER* to REENABLE the installed AV afterwards.
