pc to tv without s video

I dont know much about computers but i would like to know if there is way to hook up my computer to my tv without a s video cord? So i can watch movies that i have on my computer on my tv. I have done this with a laptop i had but the desktop i have now does not have a s video plug in the back of it is there any other cord i can use or convert or something? Or do i need to just get a new computer since this one is about 5 years old? Any help with this would be great.

Your computer needs a video port with an output connection such as s-video,
VGA or composite video out. Maybe you can buy a new video card that has a
video output.
