Why are wmv file automatically being downloaded to my desktop instead of just
playing? How can I change this?

Open Windows Media player
Select Tools - Options and goto the File Types tab.

Make sure wmv file is selected. Or click on Select All if you like.
This sometimes occurs when you install other players, like winamp and they
change the file associations.
