windows xp no longer supports/incl 'scandisk'
you need to run 'chkdsk.exe'/checkdisk/ - and
activated thru the
1/
a/
gui/graphic user interface/ version - in tools
go start/right click - my computer/open/
go right click - local disk/properties/
go tools tab/
go 'error checking section'/click - 'error chk now'/
click on - 'both options' - on dialog box/
ans 'yes' - to sched reboot/
reboot
b/
command line ver - in command prompt window - ie
open 'command prompt window'/
go - enter 'chkdsk /f' - on command line/
note ans 'yes - to sched reboot'/
reboot
c/
then you can run 'defrag.exe' - ie
note
use same section/page as in 'a/' above - ie
go start/right click - my computer/open/
go right click - local disk/properties/
go tools tab/
go 'defragmentation' section/click-'defragment now'/
and
2/
you can get results of 'chkdsk' - ie
go start/control panel/perf..and maint/admin tools/
go event viewer/application log/
go - scroll to winlogon/
go open/
and take it fr there
