View Full Version : Playing a DVD movie locks up my computer

No matter what player application I use (WMP, RealPlayer, Quicktime,
Interactual DVD player, VLC Player)... as soon as the DVD begins to be
accessed, the whole desktop locks up. Mouse, keyboard... nothing works and I
have to either hit the master reset button or unplug the machine. The crash
occurs whether I try to play a movie in my DVD-ROM or DVD R/RW drive.
Windows XP Pro
SP2
AMD Athlon XP+ 2800
2.07 GHz, 728 MB of Ram
ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 Series
I've installed the latest drivers of the video card (7.10) and rolled back
to an older version (7.7). Rolling back got rid of a Direct X error, but did
nothing for DVD play back.
Event Viewer returns this:

Yes.
I recently did a complete format and re-install of Windows. Prior to that,
I was able to play DVD's just fine.
