trouble with sound starting up when turning computer on

My sound will not play unless I turn my speakers on before
I turn the computer on. Is this a quirk with XP or a
problem with my computer? I just upgraded from win98 to
winxp about a month ago.

Quirk.

The XP drivers may simply require that the speakers be initialized at boot
and if they are not powered on, they may not be recognized as being
connected.
