When using out look express 6.0 I am unable to use the
spell check. The button is grayed out on the tool bar.
Outlook help said to go into options and click on the
spelling tab... only problem is no tab. Any ideas?

In order for Spell Check to function on Outlook Express, you need to have
MS-Office installed or one of the following compenents, either Word or
Publisher. If you have MS Works Suite, inclusive of Word, it will function
as well.

Without any of those installed, the spellcheck function in OE is inactive.
Failing the above, if you go to www.google.com, you can run a search and
find a number of freeware spellcheck products.

Briane,

In Outlook Express
Help ... Contents and Index ...
Click the Search tab and enter spell check
Press List Topics and high light the first one entitled Checking the
spelling in messages.
Press Display and the answer to your question will be found.

A large number of common answers can be found in the product help.

I believe OE uses the spell check found in MS Word. If you don't have it,
the button will be greyed out as you say it is.

Wow, I haven't been to your site for awhile, Michael. That page for
spellcheck is terrific. Guess I'll be pointing user to it much as I point
to Jim Eshelman's shutdown troubleshooter.:-)

Michael,
Thanks, I appreciate the endorsement. I think I have most of the spell
checking problems covered, but am always open to suggestions.
