Can't figure this out. System hangs on 2nd hibernation, or standby. Win XP Home SP2
Recently, my computer has started hanging on the 2nd hibernation, or
2nd standby. I can't figure it out. I haven't installed any new software. The last things I can remember right before this started occuring was that the September version of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool critical update download was loaded and run on the computer. The other thing is that I've not been leaving MSN Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger running down in the system tray anymore because I just haven't been using the programs lately. But those are the only things that I can remember. From what I understand, the Malicious Software Removal Tool is never installed, but just run, so you can't uninstall it. And I've tried running both MSN Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger down in the tray, but I still get the hang up on the 2nd hibernation, or standby. Both hibernation and standby where working just fine not too long ago. Does this sound like some hardware going out? But would it be so timely if it were hardware? Wouldn't it happen on the first hibernation, or standby, then? Thanks. Ryan Cabanas |
Hi Ryan,
These issues are usually driver-related. A recently updated one may be the cause, or possibly an existing one has become corrupted. I would start by reinstalling the video drivers, and actually would recommend that you check for the most recent ones from the manufacturer (do not rely on Windows Update for this). Okay. Thanks Rick. I will try running through the drivers and
reinstalling the most recent ones from the manufacturer. Do drivers often just go corrupt? And there's no other way of determining such a thing, except by the problems that they may cause, huh? Thanks. I'll read your page too and I'll let you know if it get resolved. Thanks again. Ryan Cabanas Rick "Nutcase" Rogers wrote: Hi Ryan, These issues are usually driver-related.
