It doesn't like my machine (Win8.1Pro x64, all other prerequisite updates
installed) :-( I've tried 3 times now to download and install it through
WAU, and I keep getting a 80070002 error. I tried the suggested solutions to
no avail. Maybe I'll just download the update and install it manually. Or
not . . .

Service Pack terminology has never applied to Windows 8x and was last
used for consumer o/s (Windows 7) over 3 years ago (March 2011)

Same error here. Did the fixit and even did a suggested steps to stop WU and delete files and then start WU again.
Nothing works. Now it won't download it, I waiting 4 minutes and only got 4%.

I'm going to do this another day. It is optional, and from the looks of what it fixes, doesn't look like much I need.

There is still a subtle difference between a service pack and an update
rollup, but for most purposes, yes, it's similar enough to a service
pack to be the same thing.

I did NOT get an error. Overall the whole big update downloaded and
installed just fine. That said, my download counter sat on 4% for quite a
while (5~10 min?), then jumped up to 60% and worked it's way gradually up
to 90% where it stopped for 5 (or so) more minutes before finally
completing the download and beginning to install. I don't think I've ever
seen one of these count down indicators ever work really well. I sometimes
wonder why they bother.

I didn't time it but the whole thing took quite a bit longer than your
typical average little update. I think patience is the key here.

Same here. I tried again after doing the fixit and other solutions like you
did, and after ~15 minutes of downloading, it started the installation. That
got almost to the end and it threw the same error at me again. I ran the
same fixit steps again, then manually downloaded the update file, tried
again, and STILL got the same error :-( I'm with you- I don't think I need
it THAT bad :-)

Download manually, select only the first 1/2, then install.
Reboot. Install the first 1/2 of the second half. Ditto.
At least continuing this process narrows down the trouble maker(s)
I found that on some systems, installing the trouble maker last
actually worked!

What is "the first 1/2"? I already have the other two KB's installed, so the
big one is all I need.

I suspect that it may only update the percentage counter when a file has
completed its download.

So a lot of small files may look like a relatively well reported download
but a few big files may make the whole thing look as though it is stuck.

As you say, not a great deal of use.

Cheers

Do you have to be logged in with a Microsoft account in order to install
this? Seems to me that I was logged in with my local account when I upgraded
to 8.1, so I don't know if that makes any difference or not. That's the only
reason I can think of for the continual failure of this rollup.

Hi, SCTom

Is your Antivirus program AVAST. There are some reported issues that
the update fails when AVAST is installed.

No, I'm using AVG. I'll try turning it off and see it that makes a
difference.
