computer load USB-drivers very slowly

Hi everyone,

I have a curious problem with one of my computers there running Windows XP.

Some time when I boot up my computer, I can see that drivers to the
USB-controllers/USB-ports load very slowly.

Practically I can see the problem if I go to the Device Manager, where one
of the connected device (a USB-wireless-card called Netgear WNA3100) is
shown with "#2" after the name of the device, and the connection to my
wireless network not working.

If I unplug the wireless-card and set the card back again, Windows XP now
recognise the card correctly, and "#2" is disappeared and my connection
working fine.

On my other computer, the wireless-card working fine when I boot up, so I
guess that my problem be caused by the USB-drivers.

I have installed the latest drivers to my wireless card, tried a new
USB-port et cetera.

Have any person heard about the problem before, and could give me a
solution?

My operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 3 with the latest updates
installed from Microsoft.

Very thanks for the answers.

/ Anders

Try ; From "Add or Remove Programs", uninstalling the device completely.

Then, open [regedit.exe] (type "regedit" into the "Run" box on the Start
Menu) and search the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM] sub-key for : "Netgear
WNA3100 #2" (get the exact match from Device Manager *before* you
uninstall ).

If any entries are found - delete the sub-key[s] in which the entry was
found, and the one above that, for all matches.

Finally, reboot and go through the installation process for your Netgear
Wireless card, presumably, from an accompanying cd-rom...

With #2 , it could be a double install , with the program searching for the
correct software .

This is what I think is happening - though the OP may not have actually
installed the device twice, the result can be the same - the same device
listed two or more times in the hardware section.

You are saying that you went through *both* the uninstall [manufacturer's]
software & drivers (from Add/Remove Programs) AND did the registry search,
I suggested, to look for, and remove duplicate entries for the hardware
mentioned?

After completing the uninstall procedure from the "Add or Remove Programs"
control panel, but *before* rebooting - open [regedit.exe] and use the
"Edit" "Find" option to search for any entries containing any part of the
title-text of the Netgear card, as currently displayed in Dev Manager*

*NB Make a not of the title-text of the device from Device Manager *before*
you begin the uninstall of the device.
