Lettering on Desktop

If drop shadows are turned on the desktop text displays white with black
shadows. You can turn off drop shadows in System properties Advanced
Performance Visual Effects. Uncheck the box to "Use drop shadows for
icon lables on desktop."

The desktop text will then be able to display in white or black - which
one depends on your choice in Display Appearance Advanced. Selecting a
dark color for the Desktop item results in white text. Black text will
be used if you select a light Desktop color.
