Boot your Windows Installer DVD and use the Command Prompt
there to run CHKDSK. Since the C: drive can easily be
dismounted by the software when using the Installer DVD
command prompt, you should not have a problem doing
chkdsk /f C: or whatever.

When you use the Command Prompt on the installer DVD,
it comes up running off X: , a RAMDisk. But you still
have to verify the other drive letters. List C:
with the dir command, and see if familiar items
are present. If it looks like C: , then you can
run your CHKDSK command.

booting the install disk, windows doesn't recognize the system/data
partition

i can "dir c:" that is the boot partition
following letters are not available, except x:

same problem connecting the disk to working computers using USB, both win7
and win10: disk not recognized, they suggest to format it

of course, if I put the disk back into its hp elite 8300 case, it works
fine and is recognized and boots and all the rest

in the bios the disk protection flag is *not* active

booting linux from usb, the disk is recognized but not accessible because
of the error (linux suggests to restart windows and fix with chkdsk /f)

according to chkdsk (without /f) the error is in the bitmap of usage

right now I'm re-installing the new ssd from restore disks
the boring phase will be to update windows, reinstall software and devices

then, re-joining the domain, all data and configurations will (hopefully)
be back at their locations

uffa...
