Windows Movie Maker freezes when I try edit a video

I've been trying to crop a couple videos and when I press play or try moving
the bar on the timeline at the bottom, movie maker freezes and I have to shut
it down.

I've tired both avi files and wmv files, but neither will work.

Any suggestions?

??? WIndows Movie Maker cannot Crop a video.
Maybe you mean "Split"?

Anyway...you fail to mention your OS...if you are
running Vista...disregard the following.

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

You can use Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder which is very powerful and very
popular now, many friends and I like it very much. It's very easy to create a
customized DVD slideshow with photos and videos, and to add music,
transitions, and cool pan/zoom effects and make beautiful DVD menus.

To be important, it has great photo and video editing function that can meet
all our needs. For example, you can perfect your photos with attractive
frames, special mask effects, and rich Cliparts, Wordarts or Text. And it is
easy to crop music to sync with slideshow. You can use the video edit
function to trim the video, add the caption and frame to the video, and
change the original audio with your favorite music, etc.

Also, you can create .mp4, .wmv, .avi, .3gp movies from videos in other
formats for our iPod, Zune and 3GP Cell Phones, Youtube .etc.

You can download it free here

Hope this helps!

Did you get an answer on this question?
I have the same problem! what I usually do is just restart the computer and
then restart the program, sometimes I get to finish the movie w/o trouble,
and sometimes I have to restart. a couple of days ago finally after 7 or 8
restarts I was able to finish. Thank God it auto saves when you restart the
Computer!
ctrl+Alt + delete~~(Just in case you dont already know that)
If you got any answers I'd love to hear them!
thanks!
