Using WSUSoffline to update WIN 8.1

A freshly installed Win 8.1 with UPdate.

Used WSUS to download and install updates. Downloaded about 211 files,
and installed about 100 updates.

Windows Update still found about 100 updates not yet installed.

What am I missing here? DotNet 4.6.2? But I do not need it.

WsusOffline does "Security" updates and not "Optional" updates.

And one reason for a large number of Optional ones, is at least
some of them appear to be intended for Windows Server 2012.
Yet, they're listed on a Windows 8.1 machine.

Yesterday, it started to repeat installing KB2919355, which is a 800M
update. Win 8.1 With Update ISO should have it installed. Weird...

The updates not listed by WSUS' UpdateInstaller.exe are important and
security updates. Really weird...

Maybe WSUS was confused by the 4-5 Update Rollups I installed manually
earlier.

I see.

Well, I gave up and used Miccro$oft update that night. It's not slow
after you installed the 4..5 recent Update Rollup.

Do you trust WSUSoffline?

Out of curiosity, do you trust WSUSoffline the program? Should I?

Look at it this way, you can choose NOT to
run a copy of that and collect updates for
a rainy day, and then have NO clean updates
if you need to reinstall the OS.

That's your choice, of course.

Once the Cumulative Update system is in place,
we might have very few choices concerning patching
up fresh installs of the OS.

That's why I keep these handy. It's an option
if there ARE no other options.

If Microsoft would leave Windows Update alone,
I wouldn't NEED to "wear both a belt and suspenders"!
But suspenders look cool, and a belt is a structurally
sound device for holding your pants up.

And you can use the Catalog server, to download patches
manually if you want. Try a search term like "Windows 7"
and if 500 things are returned by the Catalot server,
download all of them.
