full computer name not correct
one of my xp professional computers does not show its full name correctly.
in system properties | computer name the full name is Main. on my laptop the full name is lap250.actioncomputerservice.net as it should be both computers are logged onto the domain with the same user and password. the only error I find is 1053 error Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The RPC server is unavailable. ). Group Policy processing aborted. the error repeats about every hour. any one know the cause of these symptoms. thanks jon |

Start | Run | services.msc.
Scroll down to Remote Procedure Call ( RPC ), and double-click it. Ensure it is started, and startup type is Automatic. -- -- Best Regards, Ron Lowe MS-MVP Windows Networking "jon straub" wrote in message ... one of my xp professional computers does not show its full name correctly. in system properties | computer name the full name is Main. on my laptop the full name is lap250.actioncomputerservice.net as it should be both computers are logged onto the domain with the same user and password. the only error I find is 1053 error Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. rpc is started and set to automatic and is all greyed out. so I can neither
start nor stop service. I am getting an application event error related to this Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The RPC server is unavailable. ). Group Policy processing aborted. This may be a problem with the domain controller. I set the suffix in the network id and the name is now correct. but I think the original problem still exits. thanks jon "Ron Lowe" wrote in message ... Start | Run | services.msc. Is the RPC Locator service also suppose to be set to automatic or should this be manual or does it actually depend on the connection type--mine is shared 56k dialup?
