Logging in from the Internet into my computer at work?
 

Hi all,

With XP Home on my computer at work, how
difficult is it to log into it from home, it is behind
a WRT54G and runs Zone Alarm Suite?

How do I even "find" my computer from home?

Unless your work computer is on a direct dialup or dsl connection at work,
it's very likely you cannot do so; any IT department worth their money will
have it locked down to entering the network there.
Best thing to do is check with them; they'll be able to give you all the
details you need if it's an allowable thing to do. Just remember; if you
can get in, so can anyone else if they try hard enough.

Both machines in question are XP Home machines.

I set the work environment up myself so any changes I can do. It happens
to be a dsl link to the outside world. I would like to be able to sit at
home
and it be like I was sitting at my computer at work.

Look into UltraVNC at
http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

It'll work well with a dsl line. You can sit at home and run all the progs
on the other machine and vice versa without worrying about share settings
etc.. File transfers, copy/paste between machines, the whole thing. Very
useful and a lot simpler than networking. You'll need to get the IPs for
the machines and routers. ping and whatismyisp.com will help there. Less
secure than doing it the right way via the routers though; keep antivirus
and spyware up to date and firewalls running. Only allow your own IPA's in.
