Device keeps trying to install on every boot even if marked not to
Hi !
I have a HP desktop PC running XP professional version 2002 SP3. Every single time I boot or reboot the PC, I am told that I have a new device called "printer" and it tries to install the drivers for it. And every time, it fails. Needless to say, the three printers I have hooked up are installed and working fine. I have checked the box "not to check for the device", but it still checks everytime. And there are no "?" devices in Device Manager.... What can I do to stop this? It's very annoying !! HELP !!!! |

First, the reason for three printers: Printer #1) Dot Matrix printer for printing three part carbon invoices Printer #2) HP Office Jet printer/scanner Printer #3) Networked Laser printer I've already checked the drivers, and they are current and updated. The thing is that I cannot stop it from constantly installing on each boot. usually the checkmark works or it will show up on the device manager. Even Microsoft Update doesn't work ! I run Norton's Antivirus (updated daily), as well as several cleaning and spyware utilities (Adaware, CCleaner, Window Washer, Spy sweeper, etc) programs every day. Still no help. And yes I run most of these every day... |

I followed the instructions on the Regedit, but it still wants to install, even when marked "Do not ask again". It's saying something about the port was not detected or found...
