Creating a second partition
Hi, I'm running Windows XP Home SP2.
I'm wanting to create a logical drive on the already formatted hard disk. The entire hard disk was given to Windows XP and obviously is given the letter drive c:. How can I create a logical drive on this hard disk as it is already formatted without losing any data? Cheers -- The Amazing Spudmasta |

Only with a third party tool, eg Partition Magic being one such

Only with a third party tool, eg Partition Magic being one such And even then there's a high risk of losing data. If I were you i'd buy a second drive. "spudlick" wrote in message ... I have created, deleted, resized, and moved numerous partitions on many computers with Partition Magic, and have not lost data once. Of all my friends and colleagues who use PM, I have not heard of one case of data loss. One way to decrease the risk of data loss (besides the obvious one of backing up your data) is to run ChkDsk and defragment the drive before starting the repartitioning (or any other major computer surgery). |

Fair enough , if certain precautions are taken then the risk is NOT high but in inexperienced hands things do go wrong. For the price of PM he can buy a new drive. But i take you point. |

Hi,
Yes, Partition Magic is a good program but, I use Acronis to keep my PC safe. http://www.acronis.com go to Home and Home Office and look at True Image 9.0 Home. I down loaded it and set my partitions, not long after setting up the program. I am just giving you my homble opinion on a product that works well for me. I hope this helps you.
