PC card ethernet or usb?

Definitely prefer network to USB.
The data transfer rate for USB 1.1 is pathetic. My cable
connection is 10 x faster than my USB connection,
therefore it (USB) gave me a big bottleneck.
The exception is if your PC AND cable modem are both USB2
compatible. I haven't heard of any cable modems that are,
and unless your modem tells you so in foot high letters,
you can bet it's a USB 1.1 (hence slow on USB).

In contrast to Peter's experience my Realtek RTL8139
Family PCI Ethernet NIC refuses to install with XP Pro. I
have tried various driver updates, and different PCI slots
on the motherboard, but it won't work. Any tips Peter?

Regards,
Richard

Hi,

My Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Ethernet NIC works fine
with XP Pro, just installed it and XP load the drivers
itself. It connects with my DSL running at 100Mb/sec.

Hello, all. As you can see from my other post, I'm

having
trouble installing PC cards for an ethernet connection
through cable modem. Should I just go for an ethernet to
usb converter instead? Does anyone like this combo?
Thanks.
