Copy user data from old Windows user profile to new profile ?

Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002, Service Pack 3
Internet Explorer 8

Hello:

Cookies generated by Internet Explorer include my family name in the
username section of the cookie filename before the "@", e.g.
. I assume that is because my family name was used as the
Windows user profile username.

I want to remove that family name from future cookies. What do I have to do?
Changing the Windows user profile username is not the solution, as new
cookies are still created using the old username in the filoename, in the
usual format of .

1. So, does the username in cookies come from the user directory name?

2. If so, then is the solution to do this?: create a new Windows user
profile, and then copy user data from the old user profile to the new profile
as detailed here?:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;811151

3. I also read about another method that involves editing the registry key
"RegisteredOwner" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion, so I'm seeking to know the best method.

4. And, if I then do copy over the user data from the old user profile to
the new profile, will my applications all work afterwards retaining my prefs,
settings, etc., or will I need to edit any paths anywhere?

Thanks!

Try this :

"Control Panel" - "Internet Options" - "Content" (tab)

....on the "Content" page of "Internet Options", look down to the "Personal
Information" section.

Click on the button named "My Profile" - and choose a different Address
Book entry as your current profile.

If you don't use, and have no entries in Address Book, open it and create
some.

The "Content" tab of "Internet Options" does not have a section called
"Personal Information", nor does it have a "My Profile" button. I have
Internet Explorer 8.

Do you have Address Book?

Within Address Book, go to : "Edit" from the top menus, then choose
"Profile..." from the edit menu.

Simply choose a new Address Book profile to represent yourself....
