Unistalling "drivers"?
I have two cellular phones, one made by Motorola and the other made by LG.
At first I tried to download Motorola's "modem" driver to my Windows Home XP SP3 machine. There really wasn't much I could do, except try and transfer songs and such. However my PC did not "see" or connect to the device. No bother, I am trying another device, the LG EnV3. There are two "driver" versions of a driver for the phone - version 4.8.4 and 4.9.4. And, taking the easy way out, ran the executable for both. Of course after running, "neither" was able to "see" the phone. 1) How do "uninstall" drivers? I'd like to try and uninstall all 3 and then reinstall the latest LG one Hopefully this might work. When the bubble pops up at the bottom of the screen telling me that my USB device is not functioning properly I can navigate to the USB Root Hub (4 ports) and see in bold the "Unknown Device", but upon bringing up further information the driver I find is from Microsoft and it is dated July 2001. Right now I am trying to find out where oh where LG and others have placed said drivers. At one time, before some of you were born, I could just look for the *.drv file, substitute it, and it would work. Now where are those drv files now-a-days? Phrustrated in Philadelphia |

Thanks for that. But, after I wrote the message I realized that "add remove
programs" has the drivers, so, I removed them that way. I'm still stuck at an unrecognized USB device. My Windows 7 Notebook can see it, but the XP desktop cannot. Stuck. add, remove, reboot, repeat. No joy.

well I guess the issue of uninstalling
the drivers is now resolved. however, I'm not sure if there is coincidence between your cell phone connectivity and the phantom cd driver you mentioned. ------------------ what is clear is that your windows7 seems to be connecting with your devices successfully but not xp this is likely the result of not having specific drivers/software designed exclusively for xp. keep in mind that xp is two versions behind the latest - preceding Vista and Win7. so the cell phones you have may not be compatible with xp. I have to believe it's an XP issue. The problematic device is an LG. The
Motorola is going away, so, that's a non-issue. As for contacting LG, I did. Listened to them go thru the same processes. They had the phone on an XP machine on their end. Not a problem. It's my XP machine that is hosed. Something minor, but still, problematic. And the phone connected to a Windows 7 machine, not Vista. I'd reckon it would connect to any *other* machine except the *one* that I want it to... You need to look in the C:\Windows \INF folder and attempt to locate the LG .INF file (name ????) and remove it. Then uninstall the "Unknown" device from Device Manager. Once this is complete, make sure you install / update the motherboard chipset drivers. This usually help for USB port problems. |

Well I have made two calls to LG Electronics for help in finding out what
they term their *.inf files. Sadly, no one there seems to have the foggiest what I mean by the *.inf files. I *do* have a number of files that *might* be it, but, I hesitate to remove anything I am not sure of. What's that in the "driver store" under windows? It's called usbaapl_????? Could be it. I reckon if I didn't cheap out and bought a "smart" phone then I wouldn't have so many problems.... "smlunatick" wrote in message ...
