Offline Lines causing disconnect

Any specifics on what KB# article or hot fix # I can=20
reference to solve this problem. Thanks.

-----Original Message-----
Steven,

I have put the latest service pack on SBS with no=20
results. Can you be more specific in what hotfix I=20
need? I called Microsoft this morning and they could=20

not=20
find the fix you were suggesting I get. Is there a KB=20
article of hotfix# I can reference?

Thanks.

Josh

Hi Todd,

These hotfixes are not special for the SBS. They also=20

can be installed on=20
the Windows 2000.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

| Steven,
|=20
| Is this fix specific to SBS? I'm having the same=20

problem as many
| others with Win2000 Advanced Server SP3 (all critical=20

updates) and
| Windows XP SP1 clients. Every client I've built with=20

XP SP1 exhibits
| the random "working offline" messages. An immediate=20

click to go back
| online succeeds every time. I believe this first=20

started happening
| when I turned on Folder Redirection. But now turning=20

it off does not
| fix the problem.
|=20
| We're using all DFS shares. The DFS shares are all=20

located on a DC.=20
| I have caching disabled on all the standard and DFS=20

shares. I can
| frequently reproduce the problem by opening Windows=20

explorer on the
| Windows XP workstation and typing a DFS UNC in the=20

box=20
at the top. As
| soon as I press Enter, I get a "working offline"=20

message. But the
| workstation never has a problem pulling down or=20

updating roaming
| profiles, nor does it ever experience any problems=20

installing Managed
| Applications via GPOs. It only seems to happen with=20

the logged in
| user trying to access shares on the DC.
|=20
| More information on this possible fix like a KB=20

article would be
| great. I'd like to know if you know of anything=20

about=20
this problem
| since it quite common in the news groups right now. =20

Many people are
| saying "me too" with almost identical scenerios, but=20

no fixes
| available. This is a critical problem in my opinion=20

since my users
| cannot access their shared files.
|=20
| I've had the patch from article 329170 installed for=20

some time now
| (which was mentioned by several people) but it has=20

not=20
helped. I've
| also tried the GPO settings to disable "Digitally=20

sign=20
server
| communication..." as was also mentioned in the news=20

group.
|=20
| Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. =20

If you think
| there's a hotfix for this, please let me know and I=20

will contact
| Microsoft formally.
|=20
| Thanks!!!

| | I have a Windows XP (SP1) laptop that is=20

connected=20
to a=20
| | Small Business Server machine. I have configured=20

offline=20
| | files for three directories that users need away=20

from the=20
| | network. When I am connected to the network I=20

get=20
| | randomly diconnected, i.e. the offline files icon=20

appears=20
| | that tells me I am no longer connected to the=20

server. I=20
| | can still ping and connect to the internet=20

across=20
the=20
| | network, so I am sure that it is not a=20

connectivity=20
| | issue. If I click the offline files icon and=20

resynch,=20
| | then am I able to connect as usual until the next=20

random=20
| | disconnection. If I disbale offline files the=20

problems=20

should=20

extremely=20
