Software Hanging

I am having problem with most of the softwares are hanging on me including
IE. I ran scandisk. I am running Regcure software for registry cleaning. I
have McAfee for Virus protection.
This hanging really makes me mad. I probably use CTL-ALT-DEL 10/15 times a
day.

Is there a cure for this sickness?

1. Think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.
(Running RegCure may have only made matters worse!)

2. Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjunction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachi...php?board=10.0,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

You have described next to nothing about your environment or your
"sickness," so I don't know what's causing it. But I can tell you that
you are making two serious mistakes:

1. You are running a registry cleaner, and I strongly advising
stopping doing that immediately. Registry cleaning programs are *all*
snake oil. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous.
Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite
what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software
try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really
hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.html

2. You are running McAfee, the second worst anti-virus program
available. Only Norton is worse. I recommend NOD32, if you are willing
to pay for an anti-virus product, or Avast, if you want a free one.

And tell us what software, if any, you use to protect you against
spyware infection.

Let me go thru your suggestions and come back to you with my result. I
probably will try first what Ken Blake has suggested.

Actually I bought Regcure because of the hanging. I though that will cure the
hanging. I wrote also Regcure and waiting for an response. I do not mind
getting NOD32 if not too expensive.
Unfortunately, I just reniewed MacAfee. I had problem with Norton and I
removed the software couple of years ago and installed McAfee.

let me try your suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If you want to trace the possible causes of a hang you should do the
following:

1 - Run FileMon (this monitors file activity)
2 - Run RegMon (this monitors registry activity)
3 - View the event Viewer log after a hang.

Between the three you should get a better clue about what is happening.

RegMon and FileMon are utilities by SystemInternals which is now owned by
Microsoft.
