Windows XP Update (SP2)

I don't seem to be able to download my latest update of mcafee anti-virus
software. After several agonising hours I don't seem to be able to download
the latest Windows update either. After having a look on the Microsoft
website, I can't access any help or download pages and I don't have the
security centre on the control panel either. Has anybody else had this
problem and please help!!!!!!

How do you connect to the Internet, Dial-up or Broadband. If it
is Broadband the first thing to do is Power cycle (Off/On) the
modem or if a modem and separate router - each one. A loss
of connectivity can also be something as simple as a cable that
has come loose or not securely inserted. Also Broadband type
equipment has front panel LED indicators. After a Power Cycle
check the indicators for Activity, or DSL that indicate an active
connection to your ISP.
