I have a Dell XPS 8500, with Windows 7 Professional, SP1, with Spywareblaster, Malwarebytes, Avast, Windows Defender, and Windows Firewall. (1) TB HD Intel (R) Core (tm) I7-33-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz RAM 12.0 GB System type: 64-bit operating system I also have a Dell Opiplex 780 tower with Windows 7 professional, SP1, with Spywareblaster, Malwarebytes, Avast, Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. (1) TB HD Intel (R) Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz 4 GB RAM, 750 GB HD System type: 64-bit operating system external hard drives: Seagate backup pls (1) TB 2.5 USB portable HD WD Black series WD2003FZEX 2 TB 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache SATA 6.0- Gb/s 3.5" Internal hard drive. This concerns the 780; When I started to do my monthly backup Macrium gave me a pop-up that Macrium 7 was availble. http://i67.tinypic.com/166c1vs.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/333e2hc.jpg However, after I downloaded it I still gives the same message? I restarted the computer but it still pops up? Robert |

I just checked and the 8500 has it too
but I'm not going to do anything yet until I understand why the update isn't taking on the 780. Robert |

Well it did but aren't we suppose
to using the latest versions? Although Macrium was fine when finished I could not safely remove the USB connection and had to re-start the computer to remove it. Robert |

Robert IMO, updating is a personal preference. I rarely update software unless there are problems with the old one. For HDD imaging and cloning I always power down before unplugging the usb. For other data transfers I just wait until the blinking stops and then unplug. Many of the updates fix obscure items that most of us will never encounter. Other updates just add bloatware and eye candy. |

I just tried to do my monthly backups on the 8500
this time but it's not recognizing the HD? However, I'm able to safely remove the USB connection, so what gives? Thanks, Robert |

Thanks, Robert Did you keep your installer files for Version 6.3 ? I always keep copies of the various versions here. One reason I don't plan on using Version 7, is it leaves a service running which seems to use a bit of CPU. Even when you're not using the program. The purpose of that service is for differential/incremental backup situations. And since I only make full backups, such a service wasting CPU cycles isn't my first choice. Paul |

Thanks, Robert Don't know what the problem could be. Would need to start investigating and trying different things. Reboot, replug, reinstall, repair, etc. However, if it were me I would just install the version that worked. |

If by installer files for version 6.3
you mean a loadload site you've given me no I don't which is strange because I have everything else. I suppose I could go into Programs and look for updates? Should I re-install? If I did that though would it not give me Macrium 7 ? Although, like I said, I followed the pop-up prompt for Macrium 7 and downloaded it but instead of Macrium 7 I have Macrium Ver 6.3. 1849 and I still get the version 7 pop-up but just say OK to it versus downloading it. So is this version OK to use? Robert |

That's what Paul is walking me through now,..
Paul knows my history with computers well and helped me choose the Dell 780 and stayed with me throughout rebuilding my 8500 HD from scratch and helped me to set-up my external backups. That was allot of work !@! but I read everyone's comments and inputs,.. and appreciate your help and suggestions. Thanks, Robert |

I very rarely update programs or drivers. Almost never. As the saying goes: "Don't fix it if it ain't broke". |

I was actually surprised when I first read
Pauls's comment about not updating but from you and Paul say it makes sense. Robert |

Robert Normally, I would say "update to stay current", however a quick test of version 7, showed a service belonging to Macrium which was wasting CPU cycles. When the program is *not* running. I don't tolerate behavior like that, so Version 7 is sitting on its ass on the street right now :-) Version 6.3 will have to suffice. Paul |
